Morrow Ni Secures Complete Jury Trial Victory After Taking Over As Trial Counsel Shortly Before Trial

Morrow Ni is proud to announce a sweeping jury trial victory in the Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of its clients, Suzhou Huanmei Horticulture Technology Co., Ltd., Huanmei Supply, Inc., and a corporate officer, after a three-week trial involving complex commercial claims and cross-border issues.

The case was originally filed in 2021 and had been heavily litigated for more than three years before Morrow Ni was retained as trial counsel just two months before the original scheduled trial date. Despite inheriting a massive record and entrenched disputes, the firm’s trial team quickly took control, reshaped the litigation strategy, and executed a courtroom plan that secured complete victories for all clients.

On the first day of trial, the Court granted Morrow Ni’s motion in limine allowing admission of a critical piece of evidence. That ruling fundamentally shifted the case, prompting the defense to dismiss five of nine cross-claims immediately. Later, the Court granted Morrow Ni’s motion for directed verdict, eliminating all claims against the individual officer client.

After less than two hours of deliberation, the jury unanimously found in favor of Suzhou Huanmei Horticulture Technology Co., Ltd. on all of its claims (including open book, goods delivered, and fraudulent transfers), awarding $2.83 million in damages, and rejected all remaining cross-claims brought against Suzhou Huanmei Horticulture Technology Co., Ltd., Huanmei Supply, Inc. and the corporate officer — including allegations of trade secret misappropriation, contract interference, and other business torts.

“This case demonstrates Morrow Ni’s strength: stepping in late, mastering years of complex litigation in weeks, and then using strategic evidentiary advocacy and trial execution to deliver a complete jury trial win for all of our clients,” said lead trial counsel Xinlin Li Morrow.

The Morrow Ni team included Xinlin Li Morrow, Angus Ni, Ryan McMenamin, Jing He, and law clerks Lydia Chan and Cheng Hang. The Chinese law firm TsingLaw also provided invaluable assistance on discovery and evidence collection in China.

This result underscores the firm’s capabilities in bet-the-company litigation, cross-border commercial disputes, and jury trial advocacy, and confirms Morrow Ni’s reputation as the firm clients trust when the stakes are highest.
