Morrow Ni LLP Partner Angus F. Ni participates in panel discussion on Cross-border Issues in Commercial Litigation for Chinese Clients at the Chinese American Lawyers Forum’s Annual Meeting

During the Chinese American Lawyers Forum’s Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, attended by over 160 bi-lingual legal practitioners from across the U.S. and Asia, Morrow Ni LLP partner Angus F. Ni spoke on a panel entitled “Cross-border Issues in Commercial Litigation for Chinese Clients” alongside Karen King, a partner at Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello PC, and Haiyan Tang, Managing Partner of Quinn Emmanuel LLP’s Shanghai Office.

During the hour-long panel discussion and Q&A that followed, Ms. Karen King discussed evolving law on jurisdiction over cryptocurrency businesses, such as when courts can exercise jurisdiction over operations that claim to be fully de-centralized, with no primary place of business or nerve center.

Ms. Haiyan Tang discussed some of Quinn Emannuel’s recent successes in litigating multi-jurisdictional enforcement and discovery issues, including a recent win on behalf of several Chinese banks in the Second Circuit federal court of appeals, which gave deference under international comity principles to Chinese banking laws blocking Chinese banks from freezing assets at the request of non-Chinese courts.

Mr. Angus F. Ni discussed methods for detecting fake evidence, as well as various tricks of the trade that the fully bilingual litigators at Morrow Ni LLP frequently deploy at trial and deposition to extract favorable testimony from or through translators.
